Oh my! Oh my, oh my, oh myyyyy!
Royers Pie Haven opened up in Austin recently, in the old Toy Joy spot at 29th and Guadalupe. They’ve gained attention immediately for the super cute makeover of the space as a Texas chic spot that is sunny, cheerful and welcoming. To say that this move to Austin is a match made in heaven is an understatement. Their warm buttermilk pie sent me into a swoon at first taste years ago, in their Round Top location. But wait a moment, what is this? Savory pies are also on the menu!
I’m not sure which one I want to try first, because all of the descriptions are mouthwatering. The HeeHaw would be great for an office breakfast meeting, with its combination of sausage, bacon, jalapeño and onions with cheddar cheese. And then there’s the Margarita Chicken Pizza Pie…yes, please. There’s at least one veggie version, too, for those of us abstaining from beef, pork and fowl.
Royers has long been in the mail order pie business, but in Austin they’ve launched a delivery service. I was their first (or at least one of the first) to order warm pies to be delivered to a downtown office. I knew the pies would be a hit, because hey, it is PIE, but the feedback was beyond my expectations. One normally conservative associate called to say “Pardon my candor, but holy s%*# they were worth every calorie!” We’re used to cupcake and cookie deliveries, but now there is a new treat on the scene, and it is decadent!

They are open Sunday 7am-8pm, closed on Mondays, open Tuesday through Thursday 7am-8pm, Friday and Saturday 7am-9pm. In addition to pies, you’ll find both savory and sweet pastries (including Sin-namon Rolls and pie muffins), coffee, tea, pie shakes (oh yes, you read that right) and more.
